    About red dot design award
With more than 12,000 submissions from more than 60 countries, the international “red dot design award” is the largest and most renowned design competition in the world. It is divided into the “red dot award: product design”, the “red dot award: communication design” and the “red dot award: design concept.” The award-winning products are put before an international public in the red dot design museum.

The Agony of Choice - Jury Time in Essen and Singapore

In the coming weeks almost 10,000 works and products have to be sorted and evaluated by the jurors of the red dot award: communication design and the red dot award: design concept. Nearly as many creative minds are currently still hoping that it is their entry of all, which may persuade the jurors…

At present eight design experts from eight nations are evaluating more than 3,000 design concepts from 56 countries in the red dot design museum in Singapore. A task that requires constant concentration of the jurors for three days but which is also very inspiring at the same time: “Especially in case of the red dot award: design concept the work of the jury is incredibly exciting”, says Professor Dr. Peter Zec, who as the initiator of the red dot design award is also participating in the respective jury sessions as host and observer. “This is where ideas, prototypes and visions from all five continents come together. At the end of the day you really have the feeling that you’ve had a brief look to the future.”

While the jurors of the concept competition are still about to come to a decision, the winners of the red dot award: communication design are already determined: Of 6,369 submitted works from 44 countries the 15-member jury only awarded one work out of ten for high design quality. In the future about one per cent can adorn itself with a “red dot: best of the best” for groundbreaking design. Notice of the result will be sent to the participants within the next few days.

Officially, the winners of the competitions will be honoured at the end of the year: The awards ceremony of the red dot award: design concept will take place in the red dot design museum in Singapore on 25 November 2010, that of the red dot award: communication design in Essen on 8 December 2010.
